Sibenik

We continued on to Sibenik to see St Jacob's (aka St James) cathedral. Looks like a Byzantine/ Romanesque cross, with all stone-slabbed dome. It has most intriguing doors by a modern artist. The outside is very ornate and impressive, though once again we were unable to enter. The architecture is now showing much more eastern influence, though with quite a bit of Romanesque. We saw a "twin-horse" cart which had a large horse paired with a minute donkey, then two donkeys followed by woman all loaded with maize. Some women were operating a concrete mixer etc and a donkey was carrying a petrol engine (tractor?)

After passing Split, with its industrial complex at Solin, we start looking for camp site. Pass two more factories manufacturing dust, one of which has "no cameras" notice. We were overtaken by the behemoth again. They stop so we ask if they have camp site map. We find they are from Wallasey, near Liverpool. Stop at next camp site near Makarska (after detour into another camp site where the approach is almost vertical). Then who should arrive but English (Tony and Dick) from Geneva, whom we met in site near Venice. This camp site has hot water in washing up room, so hair washing takes place. Otherwise little to recommend it except local music we are about to go and listen to. Unfortunately, they didn't oblige until we had gone to bed where we were too far away to hear. Returning to the tent we met a very pleasant Yugoslav with an Alsatian, who spoke English (with an American/Yugoslav accent).
